Men’s Soccer The men’s soccer club team began their second straight Fall season in the TCSL on Sept. 10 as they played host to the Bearcats from Sam Houston State University. UHD got an early lead after a goal by Baltazar Juarez in the first half, but Sam Houston State responded and tied the game at 1-1 heading into halftime. UHD’s Jose Hernandez scored a goal and had the Gators with a 2-1 lead midway through the second half. The defense stepped up and did not let the Bearcats score again to secure the 2-1 season opening win. The next game is against Texas State University at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. Women’s Soccer After a tough first year in 2021, the women’s soccer club team kicked off their season in the TCSL on the road in Nacogdoches, Texas. This past weekend, the Gators traveled to take on Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) on Sept. 17 in their season opening conference matchup. In a tough physical game on the road, the Gators battled with tremendous defensive play by their goalkeeper Loren Garza. After an SFA handball late in the second half, UHD’s Fatima Lopez had the opportunity of a free kick and took advantage of it with an amazing strike to give the Gators a 1-0 lead late in the game. The defense held on to help secure the 1-0 win to start their season. This is the club team’s first ever win in the TCSL. The next game for the UHD women is 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, versus Rice University. Admission will be free at Bayland Park Field #2. View the complete Fall 2022 schedule here.
