Tax Deadline Approaching – Help Is Available!
UHD’s VITA Program Offering Free Virtual Tax Preparation Services
Once again, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provided by the Marilyn Davies College of Business is offering free virtual tax preparation services to the UHD Community and Greater Houston communities through April 16. (Taxes are due Monday, April 18, 2022.)
Tax preparation services are offered virtually Thursdays 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., as well as Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Registration and Zoom login instructions are available on the VITA Virtual Schedule website. You must request a Zoom appointment via email or by phone at 713-222-5328.
The program assists people who generally make $73,000 or less, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, college students, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need help preparing their own tax returns.
MDCOB became an independent VITA site in 2018, known as UHD VITA. Previously, the College has worked with other local organizations such as Neighborhood Centers, Inc.
The free tax preparation service provided by tax professionals also enlists the work of trained students to perform such tasks as the intake interview, data entry of the client’s information, and final review of the tax return. Once the tax return is finalized, it will be filed electronically. After filing, clients entitled to a refund can usually expect the refund within a week to a month; international returns may take longer.
