Students Still Have Time to Apply for Gator Cares Funding

University of Houston-Downtown students still have time to apply for Summer 2021 financial assistance through the Gator Cares program.

The program is funded by the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 to help students impacted by COVID 19.

Students seeking funding are eligible for up to $1,000 based on the number of hours enrolled. The deadline to apply is July 30 or until all funds are depleted. Gator Cares funding is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. These awards do not need to be paid back.

According to Vice President of Enrollment Management Dr. Daniel Villanueva, UHD has been able to assist more than 3,400 students through the funding program for the summer semesters.

“Students find themselves in desperate need of additional funds whether it be for school needs or outside needs to help them continue toward graduation,” Villanueva said. “We’ve been able to help students who would otherwise have stopped out and considered prolonging their graduation. Gator Cares really shows UHD students that we are here for them and that we care about our students.”
