Student Organization of the Week: Texas Rising

Texas Rising

This week’s Student Organization of the Week is the Texas Rising Chapter at the University of Houston-Downtown. The organization focuses on encouraging students to register to vote and to become more politically engaged through community and volunteer events at UHD.

Texas Rising Officers: Brandt Wild, President; Taiya Youngs, Vice President; Sydney Medina, Events Officer; Latasha Wright, Communications Officer; Tooba Narejo, Social Media Officer.

Mission: It is a socially-progressive political organization, leveraging the power of the youth through leadership development, community organizing, and elections. Its mission focuses on getting young Texans registered to vote through campus leadership, training, grassroots and digital organizing while building upon a movement for intersectional social justice issues.

Membership: UHD’s Texas Rising has 83 members. Membership is free.

Message From The Organization: “Organize, vote, advocate, repeat.”

Interesting Fact About Texas Rising: In collaboration with the Center for Public Deliberation and Student Government Association, Texas Rising held the largest event of a Texas Rising student chapter in the Texas Region, with 110 participants.
