Student Government Association Election Results

The University of Houston-Downtown proudly welcomes the newest leaders to its Student Government Association for the 2021-2022 academic year. The newly elected President is Shamika Jefferson and Vice President is Michelle Duvall.

Jefferson is pursuing an MBA in Accounting and Project Management with anticipated graduation of Spring 2022. She is aiming to receive her CPA licensure soon after. In her undergraduate work at UHD, Jefferson maintained an executive position in the Professional Accounting Society. She was the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance chair for two consecutive tax seasons and is also the founder and president of UHD National Associations of Black Accountants, a UHD PwC Ambassador and a UHD Becker Ambassador.

Duvall is working toward her bachelor’s degree in Communications. She is the station manager at UHD iRadio, where see tackles hard conversations about race, body positivity and work life balance on her show “Heard Ya Sis.” Duvall is also an associate to the Center of Public Deliberations where she moderates discussions with students in order to make an action plan to influence change.
