It’s Back! O’Kane Gallery Hosts High Art Exhibition Until May 21
By Sheryl E. Taylor
UHD’s High Art Exhibition, 2022 – an annual tradition – is marking its return. The show will run until May 21.
“In the spirit of Jim and Ellen Seigler’s generous endowment, High Art supports and recognizes the emerging creativity of high school students throughout our community. With more than 20 Houston-area high schools participating and well over 100 works of art, the exhibit is full and brimming with beautifully rendered works and inventive compositions,” said Mark Cervenka, Director of UHD’s O’Kane Gallery.
The annual exhibition made its debut at UHD in the late ’90s thanks to Anne Trask, the previous O’Kane Gallery director, and Cervenka eagerly continued the tradition when he took over in 2000.
The Sieglers have sponsored this exhibit since its beginning, first through Jim’s role as the art director of Houston department store Foley’s. After Jim’s retirement, he and Ellen generously continued to sponsor the show, creating an endowment to ensure “High Art” can continue.
