Interim President's Message to Students: UHD to Remain at Step 2 Until January 2021

Antonio D. Tillis, Ph.D.

Good day, Gators!

The semester is progressing rather rapidly. October is here, and you are likely looking at midterms as well as upcoming Homecoming events. While these events will be celebrated primarily from your own homes, they serve as a reminder to keep your Gator spirit strong.

It's been communicated previously that the University is currently in Step 2-Orange according to its Response Matrix. According to this step, you are permitted on campus for classes and to access student services.

UHD will remain at this step for the rest of the fall semester. This essentially will mean "business as usual" for all of you. Classes will remain in their current formats until Nov. 30 (following the Thanksgiving break) when all courses will go online. This includes hybrid, online interactive and face-to-face classes.

In January, however, we are expecting to progress to Step 3-Yellow on the Response Matrix. During Step 3, campus access will expand for students, faculty, staff and community members. It is planned that the progression to this next step will take place following Winter Break.

Until that time, I, along with UHD leadership and the COVID-19 Response Team will continue to evaluate pandemic conditions in our city to ensure that the campus can truly advance to this next step.

Your safety is our primary concern, and we will work carefully to make sure the campus is prepared to progress to this next phase.

It goes without saying that this has been an unprecedented and unpredictable semester ... and year ... for all of us. Many of you are looking forward to 2021, but I encourage you to concentrate on the present and push through with your Gator Grit. Continue to work hard in your classes and use this experience as preparation for any challenges that lie ahead.

This finish line is just ahead, whether it's graduation or finals. Let's work together to successfully complete this semester and make 2020 a year of achievement for UHD.

Sincerely,

Antonio D. Tillis, Ph.D.
