Deadlines Approaching This Month for Scholarships

Even though the University of Houston-Downtown has the most affordable tuition among four-year universities in Houston and one of the lowest in Texas, no one complains about receiving free money to help pay for school.

If anyone plans to be a full-time UHD student in Fall 2021 and currently has a GPA of at least 3.0, they may qualify for a competitive scholarship available only to the University's students. Check the Scholarships and Financial Aid website for eligibility criteria and application forms. Note that deadlines are firm, and several are upcoming in February.

The awards listed below are in addition to scholarships that may be available in a student's college or department. Check each college’s webpage for scholarships in particular disciplines or areas of study.

The Red Rose Scholarship: The University's most recognized, longest-running scholarship program is one of the highest honors for UHD students. Red Rose Scholars are selected on the basis of their academic achievements, leadership ability and potential for future contributions to the Houston community. Students must meet a 3.5 GPA requirement. The application deadline is February 28.

Dr. Yung-Fa Chang Scholarship: Established by Taiwanese entrepreneur Dr. Yung-Fa Chang, this scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need as well as academic ability. The application deadline is February 28.

Delphian Endowed Scholarship: Available through the generosity of the Delphian Assembly, an organization that supports intellectual enrichment and philanthropic endeavors, this scholarship is available to men and women. The application deadline is March 1.

Delphian Foundation Scholarship: Available through the generosity of the Delphian Assembly, this scholarship is available to women. The application deadline is March 1.
