Call for Applicants: UHS Student Regent and THECB Student Representative

The University of Houston-Downtown’s Student Government Association is seeking applicants for two extraordinary opportunities to serve as an advocate for students within the University of Houston System (UHS) and the state of Texas: The 2021-2022 UHS Student Regent and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Non-Voting Student Representative.

2021-2022 UHS Student Regent

The UHS Student Regent has the same power and duties as the members of the UHS Board of Regents, including the right to attend and participate in meetings as a non-voting member. Applications are due by Monday, Nov. 30 for full consideration.

The SGA will make recommendations to the Dean of Students by Dec. 1. The Dean of Students will make recommendations by Dec. 11 to the President, who will send institutional recommendations to the UHS. The UHS will conduct interviews and make recommendations to the Chancellor. The Chancellor will make the final recommendations to the Governor by Jan. 31, 2021. The term begins June 1, 2021 and ends May 31, 2022.

THECB Student Representative

The THECB student representative has the same rights as a regularly appointed board member with exception to voting on official board business. Applications are due by Monday, Nov. 30 for full consideration.

The SGA will make recommendations to the Dean of Students by Dec. 1. The Dean of Students will make recommendations by Dec. 11 to the President, who will send institutional recommendations to the Governor by Dec. 18. Term begins June 1, 2021 and ends May 31, 2022.
